100 social media celebrities submitting tax returns

The Director General of the ISTD, Husam Abu Ali, said, "More than 100 social media celebrities in Jordan have corrected their legal statuses and submitted tax returns on the revenues generated from their various activities to pay their taxes".

Abu Ali indicated that responding to these activists on social networking sites and correcting their tax statuses is in their interest on the one hand, so that they are not considered tax evaders or avoiding, and the same is in the interest of the institutions announced on their private pages.

It is noteworthy that there is no official statistic that determines the number of “social media celebrities” in Jordan, at a time when the number of Facebook users in Jordan is estimated to be about 6 million people, and about 4.4 million people for the “Tik Tok” application, and millions more are present on social media platforms.

Recently the ISTD in Jordan revealed that it decided to impose a tax on activists, celebrities, influencers, “YouTubers”, publishers of live broadcast content, game videos, promotion activists and advertising services, or any people who earn income from their activity and their appearance on various social media sites.

The ISTD has assigned a team of its employees to help social media celebrities and people who achieve financial revenues subject to the tax law from their activities on these sites to reconcile their legal status by submitting tax returns on their incomes derived from their various activities and paying taxes due on them.

The department indicated that all social media celebrities or any person who obtains or achieves revenue from it is subject to the law, whether the income tax law or the general sales tax law.

The department called on activists, celebrities, influencers, YouTubers, publishers of live broadcast content, video games, activists of promotion and advertising services, or any people who earn income from their activity and their appearance on various social media sites of all kinds, to voluntarily take the initiative to review the department and announce their entry from this activity in order to avoid being subject to fines and legal measures that are taken against them. Those who fail to register voluntarily.

It is noteworthy that Article 3 of Income Tax Law stipulates that any income generated in the Kingdom or earned by any person from it is subject to tax regardless of the place of payment.

The department indicated that all social media celebrities, who meet the sales tax registration limit, must register in the general sales tax network, and announce their revenues for all their activities on social networking sites of all kinds and activities, as well as from all channels and activities on the Internet that check. They have legal revenue.
