Abu Ali: 97% of the income returns were submitted electronically

Dr. Hussam Abu Ali, Director General of the Income and Sales Tax Department, after the end of the legal period for submitting income tax returns for the fiscal year 2020, thanked the taxpayers who submitted the returns during the legal period that ended yesterday, and praised their good response and cooperation with the department by committing to submit the returns electronically on time and fulfill their obligations without delay.

 The Director General of the Income and Sales Tax Department announced that the number of taxpayers who took the initiative to file income and sales tax returns electronically since the beginning of this year reached 340,000 taxpayers until the end of yesterday evening.

 He said that the number of taxpayers who submitted income returns through the department's directorates and centers electronically with the help of the public service offices provided by the department for those whose circumstances do not enable them to submit them electronically amounted to about 12 thousand taxpayers, or 3% of the total returns that were submitted during the legal period.

 Abu Ali indicated that the Income and Sales Tax Department has given most of the services needed by any taxpayer  electronically,  the priority and the necessary attention during the year 2020 to enable all taxpayers to complete their transactions remotely without the need to review the department and meet employees to facilitate and reduce them in time and effort and to preserve their health and safety. In light of the preventive and precautionary measures taken by the government to limit the spread of (Coronavirus).

 On the other hand, the Director General of the Income and Sales Tax Department called on the taxpayers who did not comply with submitting income tax returns for the fiscal year 2020 during the legal period that ended yesterday, the initiative to submit them and pay the amounts declared therein in order to avoid being exposed to increasing fines and legal additions resulting from the delay in submitting the returns and paying the tax.
