Economic growth and efficient tax collection will raise tax revenues to record levels in 2022

Income and sales tax revenues during the past year amounted to about 5.76 billion dinars, compared to 5.21 billion dinars in 2021, an increase of 11%, thus recording a new record level, which reflects the improvement of economic and commercial activity and the increase in the efficiency of tax collection.

The tax reform package and efficient tax collection in terms of structural reform of direct and indirect taxes contributed to boosting tax revenues last year, although the government did not address imposing any tax increases last year.

With regard to  the number of taxpayers (individuals, employees, shareholding companies, ordinary companies) at the end of last year, it amounted to about 681,523 thousand, of whom 236,632 thousand taxpayer in an employee item within the "employees and deductions tax".

Taxpayers within the industrial activities sector amounted to 2.45 thousand taxpayers, including 577 individuals, 1648 shareholding  company and 721 ordinary  company.

In the draft budget for the current year, the government expected to collect about 6.633 billion dinars in tax revenues, distributed among 1.545 billion dinars as taxes on income and profits, 4.587 billion dinars as taxes on goods and services, in addition to 275 million dinars as taxes on trade and international transactions, and 141 million dinars as taxes on property and 85 million dinars in taxes on grants.

It is noteworthy that ISTD changed its methodology for risk management when implementing the plan to anti-tax evasion, by analyzing and processing data and information on companies and establishments and identifying the parties that should be included in the inspection and tax audits.
