The Director General of the ISTD, Dr. Husam Abu Ali, announced tax collections from income and sales taxes for the month of September, which amounted to 470 million, while for the same month of 2022 it was about 422 million JDs, with an increase of 11.4%, and this increase comes as a result of the increase in tax collections in both income and sales taxes, as income tax collections and national contribution increased by 23% and sales tax increased by 10%, and it is worth noting that the increase in the income tax rate by 23.4% It is limited to its contribution to providing the necessary financing to the public treasury, but it reflects positively on addressing the structural imbalance between direct taxes and indirect taxes and in a way that enables the increase of direct taxes in a contribution to tax revenue.

 

Abu Ali also explained that the total collections from income and sales taxes from the beginning of the year until the end of September amounted to 4.7 billion, while during the same period of 2022 it was about 4.4 billion, an increase of about 300 million JDs and a growth rate of 6.5%, and this increase includes an increase in both income tax and sales tax, as the income tax and national contribution amounted to about 1571 million JDs, while for the same period of 2022 it was about 1334 with a growth rate up to 18%, as these collections of income tax during the first nine months of this year not only exceed the collections of the same period last year, but have exceeded the full annual estimate in the general budget for income tax, and sales tax collections from the beginning of the year until the end of September amounted to about 3131 million JDs, while for the same period of 2022 it was about 3079 million JDs, with a growth rate of 2%, and he indicated that this increase in collections in addition to the growth in the economic activity of the economic sectors in the Kingdom and the effectiveness of the reform programs that the Department is working to implement, especially with regard to the program to combat tax evasion and avoidance, the program to enhance voluntary compliance for taxpayers, the artificial intelligence program in tax auditing and the application of best international practices in auditing, inspection and tax collection, so that these reforms enabled to improve the efficiency of the tax system and contribute

 

to improving tax justice, increasing tax collections and contributing to addressing The structural imbalance between direct taxes and indirect taxes.

The Director General of the ISTD also explained that the use of artificial intelligence in the electronic tax audit application program led to raising the efficiency of the department's plan to combat tax evasion and avoidance, so that it enabled the achievement of differences from tax auditing and inspection during the first nine months of this year amounting to 338 million JDs, while for the same period of 2022 it was about 322 million JDs, with an increase of about 5%, and this increase in differences comes despite the decrease in The number of inspection tours by 25%, which confirms the efficiency and effectiveness of these tours, which depend on the risk management plan, standards and best practices in combating tax evasion.

ISTD is the first department to use artificial intelligence in electronic tax auditing, which contributed to the speed of completing tax audit procedures and discovering tax differences as soon as possible, as this program comes within the package of electronic programs, modernization and development using technologies in the tasks and duties of the department, after the provision of tax services electronically, which are 63 electronic tax services and the national e - invoicing program, has been completed.
