The Prime Minister pays a surprise visit to the Income and Sales Tax Department

Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Al-Khasawneh paid a surprise visit, Sunday morning, to the Income and Sales Tax Department, to see the progress of work and the services provided by the department to customers and taxpayers.

The Prime Minister urged the employees of the Income and Sales Tax Department to provide the best service that the citizen, the economic sectors, the business sector and investors deserve, in implementation of the royal instructions for facilitating for the customers away from bureaucracy and administrative complications.

He pointed out that the relationship between the department and the taxpayers in paying the tax from individuals and institutions, which is governed by law, must be based on mutual trust, and that the employee and the taxpayer perform their role and duty towards the country and its economy.

 

During the visit, Dr. Al-Khasawneh stressed the need for the inspection tours carried out by the Income and Sales Tax Department staff to establishments and sectors to be of the highest professional and objective levels and in accordance with the provisions of the law

He said: "It is important for the citizen and the business and investment sectors to feel that the Income and Sales Tax Department was found to serve him and that its collections are accurate and objective."

 

He pointed out that our main message is that the private sector is a key partner in the development process and at the same time it is mandated by law with regard to the dues to pay income and sales tax, stressing that the private sector has a key role in our endeavor to make Jordan a home and destination for attracting investments that move the wheel of the economy and contribute to Creating job opportunities for Jordanian youth.

And he indicated the need to interact positively with the complaints and objections of taxpayers regarding income tax assessments and to strengthen the mechanism for resolving administrative complaints before they reach the judiciary.

He noted the need to speed up the adoption of the "national invoicing" system, which will serve the state treasury in obtaining real revenues and will enable the department to provide basic information to achieve the burden of tax proof. It will also enable the tax auditor to complete and audit files as soon as possible.

 

The Prime Minister inspected the Public Service Office in the Income and Sales Tax Department, in which 40 to 50 percent of the department's auditors' transactions are completed.

Dr. Al-Khasawneh had some chats with some customers regarding the services provided, explaining the importance of simplifying and facilitating procedures for citizens, representatives of economic sectors and investors.

 

From his side, Director General of the Income and Sales Tax Department, Dr. Hossam Abu Ali, explained that the tax reforms carried out by the department are not limited to following up on violations and combating tax evasion and avoidance, but rather there is a package of reforms aimed at improving tax services for taxpayers.

He said that the department has given the issue of facilitating the taxpayers sufficient attention and care, as the majority of the services obtained by the taxpayer during the year 2020 are transferred to electronic services, and there is no need to consult the taxpayer personally to obtain them, as he can obtain them electronically.

 

He added that the department has formed teams to educate, guide and direct the taxpayers in the field in order to ensure that they are not exposed to any legal violations.

He stated that the department has placed cameras on the chest of each auditor to document the procedures he takes during his visit to the taxpayers at their work sites, and this includes the auditors at the Large and Medium Taxpayers Directorates and the Anti-Tax Evasion Directorate .

He pointed out that the department has moved from the concept of the tax estimator to the concept of the tax auditor, and the auditor no longer has the authority to estimate, but rather audits the financial data and information provided by the taxpayer.
